1998 SK8 Olympics Opunake

In 1998 “Y – time” and “Awhimai Awhiatu” Youth groups held the very first “Sk8 Olympics” in Opunake.  Along with classic events like Half Pipe and  Best Air we had some stupid ones like Hurdles, Dummy Run and Goofy Race. The event was a success and led to “Sk8 Olympics” becoming a big event in the years to come at the (then to be built Skate Park).

The newly made wedge ramps were created to give sk8er’s some equipment to use while we worked towards the “Skate Park”.
