Francis Douglas finally triumph over NP Boys High 2011
2011 Francis Douglas Memorial College have triumphed in their local derby against New Plymouth Boys’ High School at a packed Gully Ground.
The perennial underdogs defeated Boys’ High 19-13 after dominating for long periods in the match.
The score could have been greater had Francis Douglas not missed four shots at goal, although the game was evenly poised with less than 20 minutes to go after Boys’ High came from 13-3 down to level things up at 13-all through a penalty and converted try to Matt McDonald.
A change of kicker did the trick for the visitors, however, with Patrick Forsythe landing two pressure kicks in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.
Scorers: Francis Douglas Memorial College 19 (S Marshall, D Beer tries; C Ritai pen, P Forsythe 2 pens) New Plymouth Boys’ High School 13 (M McDonald try; McDonald con, 2 pens). HT: 13-3.
