Mt Messenger – Northside excavations.

Here’s a look at the north side of the 235-metre tunnel we’re excavating on Te Ara o Te Ata – Mt Messenger Bypass in North Taranaki.

We’re preparing for the project’s 110-tonne road header machine to ‘break through’ in late October, completing the excavations of the tunnel’s top section. After this, the road header will back up to the southern end of the tunnel and start excavating the bottom section, with completion targeted for March 2026.
