Opunake Peter Snell Bronze Memorial 2021
Opunake’s Peter Snell won three Olympic gold medals in the 1960s for the 800 and 1500 metre events and two commonwealth Games gold medals for the mile and 880 yards track events. In 1999 he was an inaugural inductee into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame located at the University of Rhode Island. The statue was sculptured by Dr Fridtjof Hanson and bronzed by Ross Wilson. The Exhibit was commissioned by the Egmont Community Art Council in May 2007 for around $50 000.
