Queen and Duke Royal Visit to New Plymouth 1954
Caleb Wyatt films some of the activities in New Plymouth associated with the Royal tour to NZ in 1954.
For New Plymouth the Big Day was January the 4th. The Film opens with a Kapa haka group practicing for their performance later in the day. We then move to the crowds that lined Devon St to see the Queen and the Duke motor slowly up the street. This is followed by the parade which includes floats prepared by the New Plymouth Savage Club, New Plymouth Savings Bank, Millers N.P Ltd., Scouts and Cubs, New Plymouth Aero Club, North Taranaki Art Society, New Plymouth Yacht Club, Bowling Club, Telephone Exchange and kapa haka groups. The final scenes are at Pukekura park where the floats park for the crowds to watch
