Railcar Visits the New Plymouth Waterfront With ‘Taranaki Tourer’ 2016
RM31 Visits The New Plymouth Waterfront With ‘Taranaki Tourer’ 2016. RM31 Tokomaru arrived along New Plymouth’s Waterfront after traveling the full length of the Marton – New Plymouth Line in New Zealand on Saturday 22nd October 2016. The 1938 railcar, which had departed from the Pahiatua Railcar Society’s home yard earlier in the day, had not previously been to New Plymouth since 1972.
The name of the 2016 excursion was ‘The Taranaki Tourer’
New Plymouth’s station was demolished in the 1980’s during a rationalisation of old rail infrastructure. The sight is now an attractive seafront promenade known under the name of Puke Ariki. But the lack of a city platform leaves nowhere for rail visitors to safely disembark.
