Ranfurly Shield Wellington V Taranaki 1953

Wellington successfully defended the Ranfurly Shield against Taranaki at Athletic Park, winning 26-3 before an estimated 40,000 spectators. Wellington, who had recently taken the shield off Waikato, established an 18-0 halftime lead in this first defense of their 1953 tenure. Taranaki had previously defeated Wellington earlier in the season.
