Dr Trudy King was born in New Plymouth in 1858 and along with Sir Ed Hillary is one of NZ’s most famous people. He was the first private person to be given a state funeral in 1938, and he was the first non-royal to be on a NZ postage stamp in 1957. In that same year the NP Council named a street in his honour.
