Taranaki Boy breaks world record.
Matheson Brown has scaled 50 of the tallest peaks in North America to prove regular guys can break records too.
It took just 20 days and five hours for the 27-year-old from New Plymouth and his mates to speed climb the tallest mountains in all 50 states of the United States.
The climber is awaiting endorsement from Guinness World Records after completing the feat four days ago, though he had yet to manage a full night’s rest, he told Stuff from his car in Colorado.
Brown witnessed almost a month’s worth of sunrises and sunsets as he survived on as little as one hour’s sleep each night so he could finish the expedition on time.
“It was never about breaking a world record; it was about making a statement.
