The Mount Taranaki disaster 2023
Mount Taranaki is a dormant stratovolcano in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. At 2,518 meters, it is the second highest mountain in the North Island, after Mount Ruapehu. This is a story of mountain climbing gone wrong. 31-year-old Hiroki Ogawa and 29-year-old Nicole Sutton were taking part in an organized climb on a holiday weekend when things went terribly wrong.
