The Opunake Reef – that never worked….2004

There was great excitement on the coast with the proposal to build an artificial surfing reef at Opunake.

This was going to be so good it would attract surfing tourists from everywhere and provide a big boost to the local economy. In the end it never worked and the South Taranaki Council finished up being poorer by many $$$ – a very expensive mistake. This video was made about 2003-4 when it was all looking very exciting and great things were about to happen.
