1989 Skating Opunake High School

Skating Elective at school run by Mrs Davy. Jibb bought the black ramp, rail and a camera. Features Lippy, Matty P, Lionel Tito, Trever Hall, Motu Mataa, J.B, Walter Richardson, Shane Hurlihy, Chops, Rowan Cambie, Tika, Jeremy Wallace and Dada.

The elective (or was it a sport??) was awesome for the sk8ers involved and helped lay plans to get the two half pipes built in Opunake the following year.

The black ramp lived on for many years and got re plyed a couple of times. I moved it to the Opunake Sk8 park in the late 90’s where it was finally trashed. We used the same template to make 2 or 3 just like it. The rail lives on and is still used at my place several times a year. The original design (as seen in the clip) was a wheel trap – we’ve since stripped the welded legs and set the rails onto wood.

The jump ramp culture from the late 80’s (in Opunake) lived on and was adopted by the sk8ers of the late 90’s (even when it wasn’t popular anywhere else).
