From late 1995, the news intro and weather beds used by Taranaki’s Classic Hits 90FM.
The news intro in this clip was the standard theme used across the Classic Hits network at the time. However, the weather jingle was unique to the Taranaki market and differed from the standard jingle used by other Classic Hits network stations.
This particular weather jingle was originally used by Taranaki’s Q 90FM between 1989 and 1991.
BRIEF STATION HISTORY
– Classic Hits 90FM’s roots date back to 1948 when it was established under the name 2XP. 2XP later became known as 2ZP, then Radio Taranaki. The station broadcast on 1370 AM until 1978 when its frequency was adjusted to 1053 AM.
A second frequency for Radio Taranaki (1560 AM) was also established in the South Taranaki town of Hawera during the 1970s. Known as Hawera’s 2ZH and 2ZH Radio Taranaki, the station featured a mix of local programming from the Hawera studio and relays of the main New Plymouth based programme. In 1978, 2ZH’s frequency was adjusted from 1560 AM to 1557 AM.
In 1991, Radio Taranaki began simulcasting its programme on 90.0 FM, when its sister station Q90FM ceased operating on that frequency. The station became known as 90FM & AM Radio Taranaki, and later 90FM Radio Taranaki.
In December of 1993, 90FM Radio Taranaki was re-branded as Classic Hits 90FM.
In 2014, Classic Hits 90FM was re-branded as The Hits.
