Midwinter swim Ngāmotu Beach 2023
The temperature was 7 degrees as the shortest day dawned over New Plymouth, as more than 100 brave souls took to the water off Ngāmotu Beach for the annual polar plunge. The water temperature was about 15 degrees.
Sophie Jordan from More FM lead the charge into the water.
Kelly Thompson, a parking officer for New Plymouth District Council, said it was great to come together with other companies. “It was a little chilly,” she said. Jorja Ainsworth, 10, wasn’t impressed with the water temperature.
Soup and hot chocolate and New World grocery vouchers went a long way towards warming the swimmers inside the New Plymouth Yacht Club rooms after the event. 21June 2023
