Patea Rugby Club’s 1974 team Reunion 2014

The Patea Rugby Club’s 1974 team decided it was time for a get-together before they all got too old and past it.

Organiser Harvey Gibbs said they got the ball rolling late last year for an Easter 2014 reunion. Seventeen of the original 24 players turned up. Three of the 24 had died.

“They always had a marvellous team spirit and nothing had changed.”

The members came home to Patea for the 40th anniversary from all over the country. They were “thrilled to meet up again, have a few drinks and a yarn with some fine old mates”, he said.

The club had two All Blacks – Murray Wills and Alistair Scown, they are interviewed on this film by Morris West.
