On the 31st of March 2006 the last big departmental store in Hawera, Cornishs, closed its doors. The owner Richard Kennedy-Moffat had steered the business through the last decades and had provided a very worthwhile service to the people of South Taranaki.
Richard was a lad from Scotland who migrated to NZ at an early age after having a fascinating series of jobs in the UK. In this audio documentary Richard talks of his Childhood, working in London, the voyage to NZ, and finally, how he came to Taranaki – and eventually became the proud owner of Cornishs of Hawera.
